The 2017/2018 Methow Valley Biathlon Team

Betsy Devin-Smith
Head Coach
The Methow Valley Biathlon team is proudly led by Betsy Devin-Smith. Betsy has way more passion than she can possibly pack into her little body. A full-time rancher and retired veterinarian, Betsy devotes her every spare moment to the Biathlon Team. Her accomplishments as a Biathlon Coach, Advisor, Ski Team Board Member and participant earned her the award of “Volunteer Ski Coach of the Year” by the US Olympic Committee in 2010. Betsy assisted as a Biathlon Official at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and again at the 2018 World Cup in Soldier Hollow, UT. She is a past US Master Biathlon Champion and a North American Biathlon Champion. She is a Level 1 certified Biathlon Coach and a 4H shooting sports leader.

Scott Waichler
Assistant Coach
Scott started doing biathlon with his children in 2007. He is a USBA coaching member, PSIA Level 3 cross-country skiing instructor and US Skiing Level 100 coach, and is a current and past national master biathlon champion. Scott also coaches XC in the MV Nordic Team.

… it takes a Village
Passionate parents are another key to success for the Methow Valley Biathlon youth program. All parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend biathlon practices and events. Many Methow Valley parents even join the biathlon team and participate all winter long right alongside their children. Biathlon is a great activity for the whole family. For more information on becoming involved with the Methow Valley Biathlon program please contact Betsy Devin-Smith.

Skip Smith

The Methow Valley Biathlon Team’s best friend is Skip Smith. He will claim he is “just Betsy’s Husband” but Skip is invaluable to the Methow Valley Biathlon program. Hours of his time is devoted to everything from metal fabrication on targets to grading the ground at the ranges. The Methow Valley Biathlon program owes so much to this dynamic married duo.
