Support Youth Development Through Nordic Skiing!

Your generosity helps to share the love of cross country skiing with all youth across the valley. Our top level coaches and volunteers provide valuable life lessons to valley youth through the disciplines of cross country skiing and biathlon. Team members gain physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills, all while having fun and being active. You make this possible! Your donations allow us to offer youth programs at affordable prices, and you fund financial aid for families who need it.

Because you donate to MVNSEF, our dedicated coaches not only support the youth team, but also offer top-level adult classes and clinics to help all adults improve and grow in their skiing.

Methow Valley Nordic Ski Educational Foundation supports a vibrant Nordic ski community in the Methow Valley; we engage, challenge, develop and inspire Nordic skiers of all ages.

Together with your support, we do the following:

  • In partnership with the Methow Valley School district, we provide a free learn-to-ski program (Ski Cubs) for children K-2nd
  • Grow our financial aid fund to ensure that anyone wanting to join the team has access through our scholarship program
  • Provide a ski bus to transport kids to various trailheads for practices to explore our beautiful valley
  • Groom and maintain the McCabe ski trails at the school for easy access
  • Offer affordable camps and clinics for beginning to advanced adult skiers
  • Host community and competitive events to share our love of skiing

Methow Valley Nordic is a 501(c)3 non-profit. All donations are tax deductible.

International Competition Fund

The Methow Valley Nordic International Competition Fund (ICF) supports current participants and graduates of the Methow Valley Nordic and Biathlon Teams who are pursuing skiing at an international level.

Overview

The International Competition Fund (ICF) furthers the mission of the Methow Valley Nordic Ski Educational Foundation (MVNSEF) by providing financial support to current or former members of the Methow Valley Junior Nordic Team (MVNT).

The ICF is a qualification and need-based fund, to be used for eligible current and former MVNSEF athletes pursuing careers in Nordic skiing. The fund primarily helps support year-round travel, training camps, and racing costs associated with competition at the international level. If adequate resources are available, the fund can also support junior skiers nominated by their National Governing Body to attend key international championships. Need is defined as stated insufficient resources to support the required training, travel, and competition.

Applications

Applicants should submit requests for funding to MVNSEF: International Competition Fund Committee, PO Box 1063, Winthrop, WA 98862.

Applications should be submitted when qualification criteria are met, and must include the following:

Senior (age group):

  • Specific qualifying criteria met
  • A statement describing athlete’s goals for the year, including events & camps

U23s & Juniors:

  • Event name and date
  • Trip costs and payment due dates

All applicants:

  • Funding available from other sources – both pending and realized
  • A proposal of how the qualifying athlete intends to meet the community service requirement of the Fund

Community Service Expectation

Applicants awarded funding are expected to give back to the Methow Valley Nordic ski community in a meaningful way. Fulfillment of the community service obligation must be completed before an athlete is eligible for further funding.  Community service can include coaching at ski camps, speaking engagements (in person or virtual) to club members or the broader community, video or newsletter updates from the road, or similar MVN community activities.

Funding for qualifying athletes will be determined based on available funds.  In the case of insufficient funds for full funding, the Committee will determine payment based on a formula that applies to all applicants.

The funding committee reviews applications on a rolling basis.  The committee consists of two current MVNSEF Board members (not to include any individual with a potential conflict of interest) and the MVNSEF Executive Director. The Funding Committee operates by consensus and recommends award decisions to the Board of Directors.  Procedures and operational changes put forth by the committee will be submitted to the Board of Directors for consideration.

Supporting the Fund

Donations to this fund should be made payable to “MVNSEF International Competition Fund” and sent to MVNSEF, PO Box 1063, Winthrop, WA 98862. MVNSEF cannot accept donations that are earmarked for a specific athlete or event.  MVNSEF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible, to the extent permitted under current tax law.
