Para Nordic Program

Providing information, support, and coaching for skiers of all ages and abilities.

About our Program

Methow Valley Nordic Ski Education Foundation’s Para Nordic ski program provides information, support, and coaching for physically impaired skiers of all ages and abilities. Our adaptive ski program is open to youth and adults who are interested in Nordic skiing for both recreation and competition.
Youth and adults with physical disabilities including vision impairment can enjoy skiing on the trails in the Methow. Many of our groomed ski trails provide great experiences for individuals with adaptive ski requirements, and are used by everyone from athletes using adaptive aides to recover from injury and adaptive skiers on vacation, to para Nordic athletes training for the Paralympics. The popular Ski to the Sun Nordic race also has a para Nordic ski division.
In partnership with Methow Trails, a number of sit skis are available at different locations around the Methow for loan on a daily basis. For more information on trying a sit ski, please visit their website. Contact us at methowparanordic@gmail.com to become involved and learn more!

Races & Events

Want to come and ski in the Methow? Unsure of where to go, or need help with gear? We can help set you up with a Ski Buddy. Our group of volunteers is ready to help with logistics, trail selection, and to provide on-snow support. Contact us to get set up with a ski buddy.

As our program builds, so will opportunities for races and events. Currently the Race of the Methow and the Ski to the Sun have Para Nordic categories.

The 2023 Para Nordic Camp was a big success, thank you to everyone involved! We hosted nine skiers for our first annual three day Para Nordic camp in Mazama that culminated with a race wave in the Ski to the Sun. We excitedly brought Beth Ann Chamberlain, the national development director for US Para Nordic in from Minnesota, as well as US Paralympians Erin Martin and Sean Halstead to provide ski instruction and ski with everyone in attendance. Local coaches Betsy Devin-Smith, Ned Buckingham, Pete Dickinson, and numerous volunteers supported the camp, all adding up to an inspiring several days of skiing. Our 2024 camp will run from Feb 7-9, in Mazama once again. Please click here for 2024 camp details.
