Since 1988, the Methow Valley Nordic Team has supported young skiers to explore and thrive in the sport of Nordic skiing, beginning at age six and extending all the way through the high school years. We emphasize a philosophy of athletics as part of a healthy lifestyle, beginning with a foundation of good ski technique and progressing with fitness strategies, teamwork, individual accountability and other characteristics which support the development of not only great skiers, but great people.

This coming 2022/23 season we look forward to welcoming over 140 skiers into our winter program, and we want your help! We are hiring for several part-time positions in our program in both coaching and administrative roles, offering competitive wages and a chance to work within a friendly and motivating community of families and young athletes in the Methow Valley.

Positions include:

Snow Leopards Assistant Coach: Serves as assistant in the Snow Leopards (12 – 13yr old) ski group, including 3x/week practices and occasional weekend events both home and away. Our Snow Leopards range from developing skiers with an interest in lifelong recreation, to budding competitors with aspirations on racing success. We provide a broad coaching staff to support these diverse abilities and the Assistant Coach supports the Lead Coach to organize and distribute those athletes (and their coaches) in order for everyone to get the most of their time on snow.

Arctic Fox Head Coach: Oversees the ever-fun Arctic Fox (6 – 7yr old) group, practicing once per month through the December holiday and then 2x/week from January until the beginning of March. The entire goal of this group is to encourage our youngest skiers to have a fun time in the wintry outdoors on their skis! Moving up a hill to ski back down through a slalom, playing tag and capture the flag, and sharing mugs of hot cocoa at the end of a practice are all in your job responsibilities in this fun role.

Wolverines Assistant Coach: Our Wolverine group represents the oldest skiers in our program (ages 14 – 18) and works under the guidance of our Lead Wolverine coach. Like our Snow Leopard group, there are athletes in the Wolverines who are striving for national (and even international) competitive goals, as well as those who are looking to hone the edge of their ski technique to pursue personal challenges out on our local and regional trails. The Assistant Coach coordinates with the Lead Coach to ensure that athletes across this spectrum are supported and engaged in this group.
