MVNSEF Covid-19 Policy

Effective July 2022

While we continue to live with the Covid-19 illness circulating through our community, we acknowledge that the nature of the virus along with the changes in public and private safety mechanisms have shifted how we may interact with one another. This document is meant as a general outline of our COVID safety plan for programs and events.  The specific implementation of the plan will be done with each program and event.  Please note, this document is subject to change as the pandemic continues to evolve. As well, if a particular MVNT activity or trip requires more stringent requirements than those illustrated here, those changes will be clearly communicated to all parties no later than 10 days before the trip or event.

We strongly encourage all who are eligible to get vaccinated and, if eligible, receive boosters for Covid-19.   Vaccination has been shown to be highly effective against severe symptoms of the disease and to reduce the overall impact of the virus on our society. At this time, we do not require vaccination for MVNSEF or MVNT participants to engage in practices (indoor or outdoor), or for van transportation or group lodgings. Please note that some travel such as to Canada will have separate vaccination requirements, per each country’s guidelines.

Positive COVID-19 Test:

If an athlete tests positive we will follow the guidelines laid out by WA DoH in returning the athlete to participation:

  • Athlete must isolate and not attend team activities for at least five days following initial positive test.
  • If symptoms are dramatically improved and there is no fever for 24hrs, the athlete may return to practice after six days, and with a negative test result.
  • Before returning to any form of physical activity or training (with or apart from MVNT), the athlete and parents are STRONGLY encouraged to consult with their coach and primary physician on how to do so in a healthy manner which supports the athlete’s long-term recovery and fitness.

If an athlete or coach tests positive during a team session, camp or traveling event:

  • The individual will be immediately quarantined according to that trip or camp’s designated quarantine plan.
  • In the case of an athlete falling sick, the parents will be called and be responsible for their care and transportation within 36hrs.
  • If a coach tests positive, the assistant coach will relieve them for the remainder of the trip, and the afflicted coach will travel home separate from the athletes.
  • During all camps and trips the team will maintain a supply of covid-19 rapid tests to use if symptoms arise.

Close Contacts:

(Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for at least 15 min in any 24-hour period with an individual who has tested positive for covid-19)

Athletes who incur a close contact have several options for continued participation, based on the nature of their team engagement. For any close contact, we recommend (based on current WA DoH and Methow Valley School District guidelines):

  • Isolation (no indoor shared living spaces or dining, social distancing of at least eight feet, masking when social distancing is not available or when indoors) from the covid-positive individual, should they be a family or household member.
  • Monitor for symptoms for 10 days following close contact and test (antigen rapid test) should any symptoms appear.

For an athlete with a close contact to participate in MVNT activities:

  • For outdoor practices, no further action is required provided the above recommendations for isolation and symptom monitoring/testing are followed.
  • For van transportation or indoor group lodgings, athletes with close contacts must:
    • Immediately notify athlete’s coach and MVNT Program Director of close contact and timeframe
    • Continue to test negative on a daily basis with antigen test, for 7 days following the contact (provided no further contact with positive individual occurs)
    • Within the 7-day timeframe and in addition to daily testing, the athlete must wear a tight-fitting, DoH-approved mask during any van rides or team indoor situations.
